A Loving Note to All:
The San Francisco School of Needlework and Design Board of Directors has voted unanimously to pass a resolution to dissolve the SFSNAD non-profit by January 2024. The Board of Directors would like to thank you for your support over the years.
SFSNAD is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and preservation of hand embroidery and needlework objects.
We do this by offering high quality, educational and exhibition opportunities that honor imagination and creativity, with the goal of advancing the knowledge and practice of needlework and textile arts from around the world.
We are recognized internationally for our work to preserve and promote all embroidery, elevating this work from craft to art, and expanding its definition to share a broader understanding of embroidery’s historical and cultural influence.
We aim to sustain this art form by educating the novice to the career professional. We teach core skills from a range of genres that encourage the exploration of new materials, contemporary designs, and conceptual practices. Our Educators are skilled in meeting students where they are, cultivating unique experiences for each student.
Our Collection and Research Library offer opportunities for deep study and exhibitions allow students to experience their artwork exhibited in a professional manner. Members receive exclusive benefits and provide reliable funding to SFSNAD.
In addition to offering beginner to professional level courses, we provide low cost and free arts education programs to our local and virtual communities. These communities are multigenerational, transitional and global - and include individuals experiencing social isolation or marginalization.
Need some additional resources? We are here to help. Our YouTube Channel is the place to view stitch tutorials and short videos on classes and techniques we offer - and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook! We welcome you to use our class search feature to find exactly what you are looking for!
